"Why an iPad?" was the topic of discussion last night over drinks!
"I want to make fonts," I tell him:)
So we got into the discussion of...well, if everyone else is doing it what is going to make your fonts so special that people will pick yours over other bloggers?
Good Point....
Then my husband asks me, "If you get an iPad, can you sell enough fonts to recoup the money?"
I told him I think so!
You see...we are moving to Hawaii, as some of you know. It is going to cost us about $10,000 to move...yes you read that right...$10,000. So every bit of saving we can do helps.
Then he asks me, "So if you get an iPad, what else are you planning on doing with it? What else can you do with an iPad you can't do on your laptop?"
This is where I said, I don't know...
So...WHY should I get an ipad? What else can I do with it? I don't want to bring it to work and I don't want the kids to use it...it is for ME.
Help me here...he is ok with me getting an iPad if I have other uses and he thinks people would be interested in using/buying my fonts. PLEASE leave a comment and help a girl out:)
On another technology note...look what I found in my classroom yesterday when I walked in...
4 brand new mini computers! Yes, they are not the best, but they are new! And now I have working computers in my room:) For the past 3 years I have been in my room I have had 3 nonworking desktops. 1 that gets super hot and will probably catch on fire, one that sounds like an airplane is taking off, and one that has a high pitched screeching noise! Finally they are gone and I can have some space for these ones! YES!
And last but not least, I have a winner from my overload post! Congrats to Kathy S. I will be emailing you everything later today!
That was a lot to type one handed! I can't wait to go to the doctor Monday and see what is going on! Anyways, have a super Saturday!

Yikes! $10,000 to move to Hawaii! Is that the cost of shipping your stuff plus plane tickets? I'm sure it will be worth it in the end though!
ReplyDeleteI know you can also use the ipad to make clip art I just haven't quite figured it out myself. However, I am sure if you combine fonts and clip art you should definitely be able to make back the cost!
ThePolishedTeacher
yeah that includes plane tickets, travel, shipping our stuff...everything!
DeleteI can make clipart??? That is great to know!
I want an iPad to make fonts, too! I also want it because I don't have any apple products and want some of the apps (like Red Stamp for making greeting cards that you can email or text instead of actually mailing). So I'll be watching this for more ideas.

I just bought one. I am going to use it to blog sometimes. I bought the keyboard to go with it. It is more portable than even my laptop. I will use the Kindle App to read. I wanted it to be able to read blog posts while watching TV or just in bed. You could maybe enter grades if you enter them online. I actually am also going to use mine at school, but just for me. I will use it to record notes when I confer with students or if I want to just do a spotcheck grade. I can carry it around with me. I want to check out all the apps. If I find really awesome ones, I may try and project them for my class to see. Good luck with your move!

I've been wanting an iPad to make my own fonts, too! :) I've always wanted to make my own clip art, too... but I just don't think I'm creative enough. My fingers are crossed for you - I hope you get one!

Am I going to be the only one who says no? Don't tell your hubby.
ReplyDeleteI have one one. It is a cool toy, but I would rather invest that money into a Mac notebook. I would rather have a mini. This huge one does not fit in my purse!
Maybe I under use mine? I am not sure I would invested that money. IMO :)
Don't hate me for not liking my ipad :(
My Second Sense
i was thinking about the mini...might have to look into it! Hey, you dont use yours...how much you want??? haha!
Deletehe just said no to the mini...that it had horrible reviews and I would be better off getting an ipad2:) He said Sams has them for about $370
DeleteHoly cow- that is expensive to move! :) As for the ipad- it's great for the classroom too. There is an app called Show Me where the kids can draw out something and it records them speaking (for example they can talk their way through a math problem! ) It rocks! :) You can also use face time to talk to people and it's much bigger screen than just an iPhone. I hope you get your iPad! :)

Smiles from 2nd Grade
I LOVE my iPad and I use it constantly, at home and while at school. However, it has now led me to still wanting more. Now I want the iPad mini so it fits in my bag or a mac air laptop computer. But, I still love and use my ipad. Honestly, if I am just checking or replying to emails, I use my iPad. If I am just googling or browsing the web or blogs, I use my iPad. It is much smaller and easier to just sit with at the couch, etc. and it is significantly faster with browsing the web compared to anything else I have. There is now a TpT app, you can READ on the iPad...I never buy myself books anymore, I just download them (Kindle books too). Face Time and the camera are sort of clunky with it in my opinion. Also, I download apps for magazines or the news and browse what is foing on that way. You can watch Netflix on it. I will literally prop it up next to me while I do other things. Ooooh pinterest works really well on (with the app)...very fast. Shopping on Zappos and Amazon...
ReplyDeleteGood luck!

Omgosh! I won! Yay! Thanks so much. Now....on to the iPad. I love mine. In fact I'm using it right now. :) Since you are so creative besides fonts maybe you can make apps? Now, I have no idea how to make an app but I'm sure there's a tutorial out there somewhere.

First of all, I have to say that I didn't know you could make fonts OR graphics, so I will definitely need to find out more about that!
ReplyDeleteI could not justify buying an iPad either. My family had to do a lot of convincing. I did use profits from TPT to pay for it. I also had "Worth It" engraved on the back. I look at it often as a reminder.
I can tell you that my computer has paid for itself 10 times over since I bought it. Your stuff will definitely sell and I can only tell you to jump in at the beginning! (Well, this is more of the beginning that the middle or end!) Go for it!
