Superhero Sight Words~giveaway!

 Yeah for Fall Break! I LOVE having some time off. It really has been relaxing! Especially getting time with my hubby:)

I am so excited to finally get a second to blog about this!

Do your kiddos need help with sight words? Mine sure do!

That's when this new unit began! I took the WISD high frequency word list from Fountas and Pinnell and created an assessment tool for me to use. 

There are two word lists for second grade. I broke them down into two different pages

Then I broke down each word onto it's one page

 

I printed out the word list for each student. I sat the computer down in front of them and had them read each word. If they did not get the word right in 2 seconds-yes 2, these words should be automatic, I highlighted the word on the printable sheet and used my clicker in the other hand to move to the next page. 

I only went through word list one with many students because they were having a tough time:(

I used a different word list first before I made mine

 

Then I gave the student flash cards for the words they missed. 

 

They wrote down their words in their Personal Word Wall and then took the flash cards home to practice.

 

Using this unit has really helped my kids with their sight words.

Monday, Monday, where did you go? I am a few days late to the party but I have been SO busy. Last week of freedom and I can't seem to relax:( So today I am linking up with Tara from 4th Grade Frolics for Monday(Wednesday) Made it!

I feel a little better than yesterday! I spent most of my night really looking at how I have to now work my reading block! See, before the ESL teacher and I had a modified Daily 5 because we say every group for guided reading every day, sometimes twice a day! Now since I won't be working with her(no one is-the system is changing) I have to think about something else....

So I am going back to do a full Daily 5 reading block! I have to get the books back from my classroom tomorrow and really do some rereading! The one thing I don't like is having the mini lessons in different chunks! I have found that there is too much transition time and instructional time is lost! Am I the only one who thinks that? So if my reading block this year is 9:00-11:20, but I have to have 40 minutes of writing in there...how in the world do I schedule my reading block? Anyone have any ideas? If you offer any suggestions, I would gladly give you my new reading and spelling trackers for free(see below for them).

So the other thing I made last night was a spelling and reading tracker. This is for students to keep data on their spelling tests and also keep up with their minutes they read for homework! Both area available in my TPT and TN stores!

Monday Made It with a possible giveaway!

The summer Mondays are dwindling down and that makes me very sad:( My projects have turned into more lessons that fun crafts! Thanks Tara over at 4th grade Frolics for making Mondays so awesome:)

So today I present a few items I have made to use this school year. At the very end, I will ask another question and if you can guess it right I will email all my Monday Made it creations for free:)

Project 1. Super Spellers Club

So this year I want to showcase my students who do well at their spelling tests! I find that many kids just don't care about practicing throughout the week and then on Friday's it shows! So my plan is to have a Super Spellers Club board set up in my room. When they get their first 100% on a test they will enter the club. They will get some kind of pendant to place on the board. After that, for each 100% they get I will give them a sticker to place on their pendant. This is just a small showcase of their hard work and getting 100%. 

Project 2. Frogtastic Spellers Club

I did the same thing as above, but made it frog themed! I am undecided which one I will use!

Project 3. Topics to write about
During center time, I want to give students more options to write about. I have created writing task cards, but I wanted something more visual on the board for them to choose instead of flipping though cards. I plan on placing these in a pocket cart or something like that to display these cards. I have 56 cards in all!

Project 4: No homework pass
Last Monday Made it I talked about how I do rewards for homework. When students turn in their homework they get to put their name on the back of a ticket. On Friday's I am going to roll a dice to see how many tickets I will pull out for a winner. So if I role a 3, I will pull 3 winners. Well, what will those winners win? I have thought about this over and over. This is my plan! Each student will get a punch ticket. If their name is pulled out, they will get a punch on their punch pass. Once all the punches are punched they will get a free homework pass. I thought about giving students a free homework pass when their ticket is called, but then I will be giving free homework passes each week and I don't think I want to do that. So here they are! What do you think? I am thinking of making a few themes too! Not sure!

Project 5. Frogtastic sticks

I used these last year as table top awards. When a table was doing what they were supposed to be doing or helping each other, working together they got to color in a letter. When all the letters were colored in, they got a prize. I am hoping to do this again this year.

My new planner and Monthly Spelling Tic Tac Toe-giveaway

As soon as I got home last night from the coffee shop I was excited to see my Erin Condren package at my door! Like all the other people said, even the shipping box

is so pretty!

I could not wait to open it up!

BUT...as soon as I opened up it up...I got realllllllyyyyy worried! Why??? Well,  included was some freebie stickers with your name on it! Awesome right?!?, Well, not if your NAME was spelled WRONG! Ugh, I immediately thought my planner was going to have my name spelled wrong. So I hurried up and opened the nice red tissue paper to find my name on my new planner was OK:) That was a close call!

As many other people out there in bloggy land, I too went with this design because I LOVE it! And I LOVE my planner! I have yet to write in it...I will very soon;) 

I am sitting here AGAIN at the coffee shop because my TV and Internet is not working. I hope they get it up and running asap! Good news is I finished my spelling homework tic tac toe! I have it up in my TPT and TN stores now! But remember, you can win it for free!

It's just one of those days...

I am in one of those blah moods where I just don't feel like doing anything! I know it is Sunday and totally forgot to do a spotlight! I know tomorrow is Monday, but have not crafted all week! I am heading into work tomorrow to help out with 4 days of Common Core planning. I did sign up for it, my principal is paying and feeding the 12 of us that are coming in, which is nice, but I think the reality has started to sink in:( That school is right.around.the.corner.and.I.don't.like.it!

So I have been working on finishing my Reading is SWEET packet. I added some things to the freebie part and will have it up in my stores soon!

I decided not to do the dog tags and do something a bit different. I ordered my necklaces today! I found colored ones on Etsy that I couldn't pass up! These are all the different colors you can order. Click on the picture to take you to the shop! I got 30 for $18.00. Now, I found 30 silver ones for $9.00...but I really wanted the colored ones:)

I ordered I, L, M, and O

I plan on keeping these necklaces and at the end of the year transferring their beads to some kind of string necklace that they can keep. 

I made pendants to add at the bottom of the necklaces instead of the dog tags! I will write their names on the back! 

I also went to Michaels and got the pony beads.

I bought the big bag for $3.50 thanks to a 50% off coupon. They will be used for each 100 minutes read. The star ones will be used for every 1,000 minutes read or 500. I haven't decided yet. And I forgot one more packet. I want another special bead for completing a monthly reading project. I am working on those projects now!

I like giving my students about 10 options each month for spelling homework. It worked well last year, but I would like to get them done so I don't have to worry about it the whole school year:)
