Sandwich book report freebie

Today was the start of week 2 for this school year! I am already slammed for getting the reading assessments started! It is very hard to try and do all these assessments when you haven't even finished teaching students how to do the Daily 5. So what they heck am I supposed to have these students do when I HAVE to get these assessments done in our two week window? These assessments will take me the whole two weeks...it stinks! Anyone else do mClass? I HATE it:(

The thought of busy work really bothers me...but it's what I have to do until I can get these assessments done! So I am having my kids work on a sandwich book report. I found this a few years ago, it is not mine:( I tried to search for it, and all i found was the PDF file, not the creator. So if you are the creator, please let me know so I can give you credit!

This is an awesome full length sandwich report kids can work on as they are completing a book. When they are done, they can color it, hole punch it, and tie it together! They actually love it!
So if you want this file, you can click HERE to get it:) But this will only last a few days...does anyone have other ideas I could do for fun book report type stuff???

By the way, thank you for all the kind words of encouragement about my life change. I was thinking about each one of you as my alarm went off at 4:40am this morning to get my butt to the gym! I was there form 5-6am. Came home to shower because quite frankly...the towel they gave me at the gym for the shower wouldn't even cover my cat! And get this...I was still very early to work...7:15 matter of fact! Kids come ta 8:35! I think this may work! I also started another blog about my new journey. It is just for me right now and set to private. It is a great way for me to talk to myself about my feelings and such without having a real journal. Maybe one day I will make it public!

Don't forget about my Mega Giveaway! It ends Friday night! So does my 50% off sale over at Teacher's Notebook

I just created a new Place Value Card game!

You can get it now for $1.25

Have a great night everyone!

  1. Ok, so I'm new to this google doc stuff. This sandwich book project looks amazing and I want to make sure I got it. So if I email it to myself I'll have it even after you take it off? I tried to download it, but it won't work.

    Thanks,
    Caitlyn

  3. Great project! I am working on doing 3 minute reading assessments on my kiddos this week and next and had a tough time coming up with ideas. I was lucky enough to have two parent volunteers offer to come in every day to help out while we are building stamina during read to self (both parents have teaching experience...yeah me!), and then working on Facebook pages. They love this idea! I'm also continuing mini lessons for Daily 5 in between our reading sessions. I worked okay today, but we got a little off track with one of the mini lessons so I only got 5 assessments done....my goal is tome complete 8 tomorrow and 8 on Thursday and that last few on Friday.

Happy assessing and kuddos on your new journey and blob!!!

  4. I have to be at school at 7:20 and we pick kids up at 7:35. You're so lucky you start at 8:30. I stumble in around 7:18 and I hate that, but seriously I get up at 5:45 (and I'm not getting up a minute earlier) and leave the house by 6:55. I'm not sure I could do a 5am gym...but I need it.

Thanks for the sandwich book report. I'm going to use it as my enrichment project this 6 weeks!

My assessment was just 10 comprehension Q's and I did a fluency test as well. If they failed both, then I did the 2nd grade test.

  5. Brown Bag Book Report! Do the same thing you did on the sandwich elements on the outside of the brown lunch bag. Inside the bag they bring a number of objects (5, 10, 15, whatever you want) that represent themes/symbols/characters from the book. I did a version of this without the "book report" elements on the outside of the bag. They just brought the objects that represented ideas from the book (we did Animal Farm, they couldn't bring a pig to represent any of the pigs, it had to be abstract!). I saw the other version on Pinterest somewhere and liked it better than the version I did.

  6. That sandwich report is adorable, thanks for passing it on! My only concern is how much paper I'd have to use to copy it for my class, lol! Ay yi yi. We do DRA2, which takes for-stinking-ever, and our district just created new math assessments (we get new ones EVERY YEAR), which has 4 PAGES of questions that you have to do with each kid individually. Every 9 weeks. Seriously? On what planet do they think we live? LOL, it is nearly impossible to get them busy and quiet enough so that I can assess! Sigh. Sorry for the vent, LOL!
