So I am working on this math journal unit and I feel stuck. Maybe I am just tired...it has been a LONG day!
This is what I have so far:
I honestly feel like I am missing something. My GOAL is to create multistep problems and I want them to REALLY work through it and explain their thinking!
What am I missing? HELP! And I promise, when this is done...to give a few away;) You guys are always SO helpful!
I would want my students to show how they checked their answer or prove how they know they're correct. But I'll let you put it in concise language if you decide to use it ;)
ReplyDeleteAlso, I always want my students to show their work and write a number sentence(s) for their problem.
Good luck!
I always have mine write a number sentence too. That is the only thing I can think of. The rest looks great:)

Thanks to you both! I am working on adding those into the requirements:)
ReplyDeleteI agree with the show your work part. I think that's a vital part of completely understanding the process of math. And it shows if they really know the steps involved (or if they got the answer from a neighbor) :)

I know that you already have for them to list the key words. However, I also like to have my kiddos circle the important words and numbers within the actual problem.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if that helps you or not though lol :)
I also at times have them explain how they decided which operation needed to be used (-,+,*,/).
Yup! This is an expectation for my kids. I also decided on a few more things. I plan on making it editable so then teachers can type their own requirements too!
DeleteThis looks really great Tonya! My suggestion was to show work too! I also like my class to use math vocabulary in their written responses.
